Being a member of the Trump family and having any common sense whatsoever is undoubtedly an advantage---anything you say or do that’s remotely intelligent seems Nobel-prize worthy compared to the bumbling behavior of Eric, Donald Jr., and Donald Trump himself.
But on this week’s episode of Full Frontal, Samantha Bee set out to dispel the myth that Ivanka Trump---who was, admittedly, The Celebrity Apprentice’s only semi-reasonable boardroom panelist---is the feminist liberal’s “secret progressive buddy.”
In an effort to bring everyone back down to earth after experiencing the “dizzying high of Women’s History month,” Bee addresses the fact that even though Ivanka may look like the effervescent Lady Galadriel when standing next to her Oompa Loompa-esque brothers, she’s not really doing progressives any favours. Apparently Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, is Tyrion from Game of Thrones, which got us thinking about the sci-fi/fantasy alter egos of Trump’s other henchpeople (can all of them be Gollum?).
Bee also inducts Ivanka into the prestigious “Great Feminists in Feminism Herstory Hall of Lady Fame,” of which Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter are already decorated members. On one hand, Ivanka apparently helped convince her dad to scrap an executive order that would effectively remove LGBT rights protections. On the other hand, people are trying to convince themselves that Ivanka scheduling a couple of meetings with Leo DiCaprio means that she’s trying to advocate for climate change instead of doing what we all want to do---fulfill our childhood dream of meeting Jack Dawson in the flesh. Besides, Bee points out that all dads (even presidential ones) have “invincible old man opinion strength” and are very rarely persuaded to change their oft-unenlightened ways.
Bee brings it home by reminding us that while Ivanka might be the prettiest and deceivingly progressive Trump, she’s also arguably the most loyal and that if people wanted a progressive feminist in power, they should have voted for it. Mic drop.
