It’s difficult to make it in show business without some combination of talent, luck, and connections to those who’ve already made it through some combination of talent, luck, and connections. But America wouldn’t be America if there wasn’t a far easier way to get famous, which is how we ended up with shows like American Idol and America’s Got Talent, and celebrities like Justin Guarini.

That’s not to say these shows don’t feature people with actual talent, as proved by Canadian comic D.J. Demers who had a successful audition on AGT earlier this week. The hearing-impaired comedian has done pretty well for himself over the past however many years he’s been joking around, including a 2015 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Breakout Artist, an appearance on Conan, and a win at the 2014 JFL Homegrown contest.

Demers looked very comfortable on the AGT stage in front of a massive crowd and entertainment “legends” Mel B, Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, and fellow Canadian Howie Mandel. We don’t how the show works so we’re not sure what happens next, but enjoy this solid set from Demers who will maybe end up taking home the… talent… trophy?

Demers will be shooting a one hour special in Toronto on June 22, so if you want to be part of something without having to do anything but sit down, pay attention and laugh, go check it out.
