Colbert began last night’s show with a moving and tearful tribute to his late mother, Lorna Tuck Colbert, who died last Wednesday at the age of 92. In an unusual break from character, Colbert told his audience about her childhood in Largemont, New York, her marriage to his father, her Christian faith, and the lessons and love she imparted to her 11 children. Colbert credited his mother for his success, saying, “If you watch this show and you like this show, that’s because of everybody who works here, and I’m lucky to be one of them. But when you watch this show, if you also like me, that’s because of my mom.”
